It's about damn time the 500GB drives dipped below $90. Let's just hope this is the start of a trend,, even if it took a coupon to get there.

No, that was 2 generations ago and long since stock of those was gone unless CC kept a lot of excess stock in a warehouse somewhere.

Well, admittedly .9 was a while ago, they may not be 7200.11. They could be .10.

The damn ad should say which one it is as it's important.

Per Seagate, "The Seagate® Barracuda® 7200.10 drive is the industry's first 3.5-inch disk drive to utilize revolutionary perpendicular recording technology, and is the world's most proven and established desktop disk drive."
The .9 are not perpendicular. The .11 are supposed to be 2nd generation perpendicular and go up to 1 TB so far.

    The drive is the .9 version, 641AS, the .10 is a 630AS.
I have two of the .10 drives and am looking for a third myself so this ain't the greatest deal really, just dumping some old stuff and if I might add, at a fairly high price

you don't know if it's .9, .10, .11 unless you've bought one from CC and looked. Retailers use the same serial for things all the time. Take for example Fry's. I've ordered .9's from them and gotten .10's.

Still waiting, I bought a 500G drive for $100 after rebate almost two years ago, how come the price hasn't dropped quickly as it did before?

People who've bought these recently at CC are reporting that they are getting .10, even though the site lists them as the .9 model.

But regardless, the deal appears to be dead. The coupon link takes me to the front page, and the only delivery option for me is to have it shipped.

I just picked one of these up today at circuit city. The drive I got was a 7200.10. The exact model on the drive was ST3500630AS which varies from the one Ben posted, though the box itself said it was an ST3500641AS.

The deal is not dead, you have to add it to the cart (along with the batteries to get it above $100) and it only works if you do in-store pick up. After that it applies the discount when you are checking out.

What I hear this model is little noisy from reading some reviews.
I'm quite surprised since Seagate is notorious to make silent drives, Even when seeking or writing data.
Can someone suggest a quietest hard drive available preferably SATA and PERPENDICULAR

#19, Hitachi Deskstar, after turning on it's acoustic management to the quietest setting (which like any other make will slow down the seeks in order to reduce noise).

You're splitting hairs though, the drive isn't particularly noisey it's similar to others without acoustic management enabled, though on the other hand Seagate is not notorious in making silent drives they're just about as quiet as others, not particularly better or worse. WD is also slightly quieter but not enough to make a big deal about. Any make can have random samples with more noise, if it seems to make more noise then expected it ought to be immediately returned to place of purchase for refund or exchange.
