$8 price drop. Tiger Direct has the Seagate Barracuda LP ST32000542AS 2TB 5900 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Hard Drive (Bare Drive) for $60 - $5 off with Google Checkout + $7 shipping = $62 shipped. From Seagate's line of low-power "green" drives. [Compare]

It's all over the place at about that price. The prize is to find a 7200 2TB at lower than $95.

I just ordered one for data backup purposes, so speed isn't an issue.

The RPM is irrelevant since its data transfer rate is 3.0Gb/s. As a matter of fact, 5400 rpm is better than 7200 rpm if you get the same 3.0Gb/s.

#8: yeah, just keep on telling yourself that.

But, hey, this is an excellent deal. The perfect storage or backup drive.

And, you do back up your hard drives, right?

    #8 the 3.0Gb/s is irrelevant since it's 5400rpm

Don't mean to reopen this can of worms, but has TD got better the past few years? Used to be that no deal could induce most people to take that chance.

A 10+ year vet of Seagate drives - and I finally jumped ship. Never again seagate will I put up the failure rates, overheating, noise, and terrible spin-up times on your current generation of hard drives. I've sent more drives back in the last year than I have in all the years previous - and they even f*cked up the returns on me too.
I sold all my seagates and bought 4 Hitachi 2tb's which are cooler, MUCH quieter (no constant clicking), and spin up in half the time. Suck it Seagate. I'll look into you again when you get two full gens off the x.11 series.

It's been a very long time since TigerDirect had problems like that.

But, don't take my word for it, see for yourself: http://www.resellerratings.com/store/Tiger_Direct
