Dell "deals" are not worth much. By the time they add tax and shipping, you can get a better deal somewhere else.

I have a Dell account for 3 years yet I haven't actually "bought" anything from them. I think they cancelled all my orders be it 8800GT or the 1TB drive.

Yeah, I used to be a pretty big Dell booster - hell, a couple months ago they sent one of their reps to my company to try a new "direct to medium size business" angle to get me to buy more of their systems - we've bought plenty.

But the one stupid SATA drive I bought from them for my OWN use the other day was cancelled. And it wasn't even an email or letter - it was a burp recorded phone spam call.

I've had little to no problems ordering my personal stuff from Dell over the years, but the fact they had that drive for sale for several days at that price, all over the deal sites too, and then have the balls (or lack thereof) to give me a "dear John" recorded call to cancel really grates my nerves. The damn 750GB ENCLOSED drives are selling for less than that, so it wasn't wildly unreasonably priced, and it was obviously something they chose not to "fix" for days.

Ah, I'll just write them and see what stupid canned response I get from overseas. worth it for the amusement factor.

Nearly half the price I paid a little over a year ago for this size of this brand. No failures yet. I think I'm about ready to get a few more.

    agree with buttmunch.

dell has fallen down in every way over the past few years. used to buy their toys all the time but i've moved on to other companies that care more about service. i love a good deal, but have gotten to where deals don't make the deal for me.

good service is rare nowadays. anyone can resell hardware - the difficult trick is getting people to come back without depending solely on marketing. as more and more opinion blogs zero in on who's good and who's not... the dollar will follow the ultra cheap and those that service us. and unfortunately, dell does not fit either of those categories.

All you guys who thought you'd catch somebody with an impossible price knew down deep that this wouldn't happen. C'mon, admit it.

I agree it looked like an almost too good to be true price, but I still jumped in for two of them and it never filled of course. They have been lower than most on some other items, like when I got a Logitech z-5500 speaker system from them much cheaper than anywhere else. It was a great deal and no one touched that price for almost 7 months when it finally was available for less in other locations. Dell's HQ is in my hometown, so I try and support them, but agree their cancellation was annoying.

Just got a Dell confirmation, the HDD shipped. So this deal is true.

Not that it matters cuz I can get 650Gb for $80 from NewEgg, eventho it's the 16mb cache version.
