Just be aware that NewEgg does a piss-poor job packing OEM drives, which might account for the LARGE number of DOA complaints in the user reviews. I have NEVER had anyone pack a drive as poorly as the WD 640 gig I just received from them. As far as I can tell, the way they packed it voids the warranty based on the WD and Seagate sites. Just pathetic.

I assume since this is a Seagate drive it will be inside a SeaShell(c)(tm)(R) clamshell thingy, which doesn't look too impressive, but should protect the drive from any >300G shipping shock. and require a Sikorsky for delivery.

Also, if it is DOA... RMA it back to Seagate. You generally get a refurb drive that is larger than what you sent. Refurb sounds bad, but if anything seems to be more reliable than new.

You're right, #1. Fortunately, my WD640GB still working after 2 months.

not true, it's not newegg's fault, while 2 drives did die that I got from them, so did the 2 7200.11's replacements I got from seagate direct.

    7200.11's just suck reliability wise.

You're dead wrong #4! It's absolutely true. Two Samsung F1 drives arrived here laying on the bottom of the box with no filler whatsoever under them to protect against shock. The foam peanuts were instead placed OVER the top of the drive, and even then, not enough to fill the box. One drive was DOA, and the other was riddled with problems that were related to the Samsung F1 compatibility issues, but that drive too failed in short order. Read the New egg reviews, and you will find MANY comments in regard to their inadequate OEM drive packaging. There are many things I would buy from New egg, but NEVER again a hard drive. BTW, no issues at all with my Seagate 7200.11's (retail boxed, not OEM's). Best drives I have ever owned.

Yeah newegg does package things stupidly, why do they put your product in the bottom of the box, then fill the rest up with packaging peanuts? I never understood that. It should go packaging peanuts, product, then more packaging peanuts.

$8 and #9, you guys should open the box from the bottom, so the drive is on top of all the little peanuts! LOL!!

Doesn't matter if you put peanuts in the box first, then the drives, then more peanuts.
The drives are heavier and with a small amount of vibration will work their way to the bottom of the box, thus rendering the peanuts all but useless.
You really need some way of suspending the drives in the middle of the box with peanuts on both sides.

This is an okay deal... I've seen it for lower though. Great drive, and that warranty lasts a long, long time. I still have my warranty for a 300 gig until December of 2009.
