I have this drive and it is wonderful. I paid more than this for it but it is worth every penny.
Newegg's reviews are not good, this looks like faulty drive.
definitely, #2. newegg is the gold standard for industry testing. the 360 or so reviews on newegg for this drive are a perfect representative sample to test MTBF for the product. thanks for the tip.
price is coming down
Not a particularly good deal considering that 1TB drives have been in this price range recently.
Seagate AS drives tend to have reliability problems; Are not particularly fast.
If you buy OEM Seagate Barracuda drives now you will get the standard 5 Year warranty. That is about to change, as of 1/3/09, where it becomes 3 years.
i have this hdd in my recent build and its working fine. its half full now.
Great drive - I have some 1TB 7200.11's. Make sure you flash to the latest firmware (from seagate.com), especially if you get a 1.5TB 7200.11!
Yes.
No.
Need a good deal on at least a 1TB drive ... seek and destroy Ben!
oh well... drives that will die tend to die pretty early.
so quick question, seagate starts the warranty at purchase date rather than manufacture date? guess I should scan copies of all my seagate receipts.
Great drive. No problems at all with it. The newer ones 1TB and 1.5tb seem to have spin up timing issues. This one spins up perfectly and its very quiet.
love it! one of the best drives ive had in ages
Dear BestBuySucks,
I feel your pain. They suck copious amounts.
good company
That's not the case, #11. Failure rates tend to replicate the classic "bell curve" graph, unless there's some physical design or manufacturing issue with a particular model. Some drives will die early, and some will go much later in life, but most will fail within the median points of the plot.
wish i can get a 1 TB for this price before Seagate reduce the warranty to 3 years
we should be able to get 1TB at this price.
They are doing the same thing Fry's did.
$80, you get a couple, then think... wait I need a spare for the RAID.. and a week later it is $10 more...
Thanks for the info on the warranty changing in a few weeks, that makes a difference in timing of the purchase to me.
#16, hardware failure rates follow a "bathtub curve", where a fair number of failures will occur early, in "infant mortality", then those that survive are pretty reliable for a while, and towards the end of the design lifespan the failure rate starts to climb again.
