There still seem to be quality problems with Seagate drives. The reviews at NewEgg show that 21% give this drive a 1 or a 2. Some reviewers are getting shipments with multiple drive failures out of the box. Western Digital drives are doing better than that.

funny almost no big retailers carry the 1TB 7200.12, its supposed to be very good.

New model or not, it's hard to justify a 500gb drive for $60 when you can get some very good 1TB drives for $80.

single platter drive. waiting for the 1TB to get about $80 before buying. But I have read the performance is soso.
