Newegg has the Seagate Barracuda LP ST31000520AS 1TB 5900 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Hard Drive with Rosewill Hard Drive Dock for $80 with free shipping. Good reviews from Newegg users.

This is pretty sweet. The dock is fine but my only gripe is the power cord is a bit short

Now I only look at 1.5TB drives. Don't want too many 1TB drives and having to plug & unplug drives often.

i burp hate these 5900 rpm drives! They use more energy to access files overall rather than save energy by running at a lower rpm in comparison to 7200 rpm drives.

Combo deal, a good way to get rid of the HD docks.

Nice combo deal. Don't know about this particular drive but snapped up two of these combos when they did it a few weeks ago with Samsung drives.

For those who are concerning about the RPM. 5900 RPM is fine and fast enough for using as backup/external enclosed drive, even good for NAS storage. I don't have this particular drive but I have some WD Greens and Samsung Econos with 5400 RPM for NAS and eSata externals. The bad about this combo is the dock which supports USB 2.0 only, NO eSata. The speed of eSata will sure makeup for the slower RPM's (actually you won't notice slower than 7200's unless using as primary boot drive). So you need to turn your concerning to this out of date SATA to USB dock instead of the drive (new 2009 models) that is why Newegg try to get rid and give it to you free, yup almost free consider this drive has been sold for around $75 - $80 for the past few months.

5900? When did this become a RPM number? What happened to 5400 and 7200?

It was rated at 5400 rpm, but someone spilled coffee on the product prototype drawings and it was designed awkwardly. Needless to say that guy was let go and ironically serves Starbucks coffee to people everyday now.

#6 Why you say too bad it's 5900rpm??.. Do you know 5900rpm, is a good spinding speed, Not fast like 7200rpm, so it last much longer. No heat issue, very quiet, cool to touch. Try to put one of the 7200rpm on your dock, It feel hot. Beside, you would'nt know the difference after awhile..

Since, I saw this again. I just pick-up two more. I already own SIX.. This combo deal is the same price as last week and the weeks before, I was hopping that is was something like 72 shiped.. #7 say it all..

One theory is that these 5900 rpm's don't pass QC for 7200- so they downgrade them with a jumper or something. I'd go for the Samsungs at Frys this week-

The dock itself is probably $20 to 40. Definitely a good deal. Do keep in mind Newegg charges tax for certain states.

Read my text more carefully, I want fewer hard drives to store my data. I already have 3 HD docks.

Soooo tempting. But my machine is so old it only takes SATA 1.5 or SATA I hds. I know, what a shame.
