Just to let you know, these drives only have 1 year warranty from the DATE OF MANUFACTURE. They probably have been sitting on shelf for 2-3 weeks. By the time you receive the drive and get it installed, there's probably only 11 months left on the warranty.

Have you ever had to send your HD back to Seagate? I've sent back 5 of them already. 2 were out of warranty so those ended up paperweight. I have my receipts and I found out I was shorted 2 months warranty because the HDs sat in the store inventory until the retailer had a sale on them to free up the inventory.
Seagate has this site to verify the warranty of the HD. Nowhere ever have they asked you when you purchased your HD or requested you send them a copy of your receipt with the HD serial number on it. Most HDs are bare drives and all you get from Seagate is a brown paper box.

When the warranty was 3 to 5 years, then 2,3, or even 4 weeks missing off a warranty was not that big of a deal. Missing 4 weeks off of a 1 year warranty is a big deal. A few years ago the warranty started on the purchase date/invoice for the drive, and if you did not have an invoice, the warranty started on the date of manufacture of the drive.
I used to buy all Seagate drives years ago until they cut there warranty along with shipping local jobs out of my area. I have not bought a Seagate since and it has been years. I feel sorry for anyone that has a Seagate drive but I guess if your not concerned about your data or information then the choice is yours.
