If you choose not to use V.me, you can get $10 off with code EMCXTXR34 [Exp 3/11]. More compact form factor than previous model; measures 1.48" (H) x 4.65" (W) x 7.07" (L).
I bought one of these around the middle of last year at about this price (slightly less).
It was a bargain at that time. They were going at much higher price.
The USB 3.0 makes a huge difference. Extremely fast.
The drive is quite reliable. I have since consolidated my other 1TB (2 of them), and a couple of 500GB external drives. So everything is now on this one.
I plan to buy another one so the two of them would be manually synchronized for just in case something goes wrong with one of them. I rely on Microsoft's SyncToy.
The only problem is that your lifetime data collection (music, movies, photos, videos, documents, etc.) can all go on one drive (for most people, at least).
If you do not have some form of backup (another drive, or tape backup), and if the drive fails, then you'll cry to the rest of your life ...
I love this drive. Would buy another one if I had money. Agreed with the previous poster... my friend gave me his 2TB drive to back up. I thought my back up was successful... so did some creative partitioning and reformatting afterward. Turns out that the back up I had was corrupted and cannot be restored. I'm been doing sector by sector recovery right now of his 900k files; all the names are gone so they are each given a number. So when you do back up, make sure it is a valid backup!
