check the feedback ratings from users on this one. seems that they have problems with the power supply connection, which makes it seem like the drive is failing. 51% feedback of one egg, which is possibly the highest percentage of poor rating I've ever seen on any product on newegg! YMMV, of course.

Thats bull baconnaise. I never leave reviews and the people that do are the ones to complain. This is a steal with a 5 year warranty and my data is backed up on 2 or 3 drives so what if it fails. Seagate will send me another one. I am so tired about people crying about the 7200.11 drives. I have 2 of them and they work great. Go spend your money on WD drives that fail just the same. Drives will always fail. i just received a new 320gb Toshiba drive DOA but it will be replaced.

An external for $120 with a 5-year warranty is a great deal, considering that the bare internal drives were (are?) $130 recently. I have the 1.0TB version of this drive and it's been great. Regarding the power supply connector, it's certainly possible that it's flimsy. It looks like the same style used on almost every laptop out there, which will eventually fail if you aren't overly gentle with it. I see laptops on almost a weekly basis that come in with "it won't charge" as the complaint, and it's almost always because the power connector's connection to the motherboard is loose. Sure, it might be possible to solder it, but that's not worth the time and effort since it's not a guaranteed fix.

Anyway, point being that maybe those people who are complaining about the power connector have subjected the drive to movement or abuse--I can't see even a flimsy power connector being very likely to fail if you just plug it in and leave it undisturbed.

Yowzers though there are SO many negative reviews though. I've never had a problem with my 500gb FreeAgent, but those 1 egg reviews are pretty damning for this big one.

Good deal. I bought the black 1TB version like 2 months ago for the same price and haven't had any issues (knock on wood).

I've got a 750 GB black one that has been great but the reviews on this are so bad it's hard to pull the trigger.
