Instead of using a small, simple USB cord, now you need a "dock" for a USB drive? What a waste of plastic. Too much iPod...

this is one of the most stupid items ever. It is not like you have to charge the drive, plus it is bigger and more troublesome than what you originally need.

It is taking less space on the desk having the hard drive sit vertically instead of laying flat on the desk surface plus it connects the drive to the computer immediately without fumbling with the usb cable. Sometimes the dock and case come free with purchase of the hard drive at frys and staples in the past.

Unless that tiny male connector at the bottom is an esata connector and the docking station itself is connected to PC with an esata cable an drive being docket has an esata female port on it, this product does not make sense.

It's not terribly useful, but I keep one connected to my laptop dock on my desk, and carry the usb cable in my bag. This way, no need to reach around the back of the dock in the tangle of wires to reconnect, and the dock does not fall off the back of the desk like a bare cable would. Wouldn't pay $21 extra for it but I got mine free with the drive.
