I bought one of these for my Vostro 1500. It's fast but surprisingly noisy. I enabled "acoustic management" in the laptop's BIOS and that quieted the drive a little bit with an almost unnoticeable difference in performance. (I benchmarked before and after and it was only a few percent slower with acoustic management enabled.) Even with that enabled, it's still a good bit louder than the 80GB 5400RPM laptop drive it replaced. Laptop battery life seems to be unaffected, being around 4-5 hours depending on usage.
