Newegg has the Seagate ST95005620AS Momentus XT 500GB Solid State Hybrid Drive for $90 - $20 off with coupon code FBSTXHD20 = $70 with free shipping. Features SSD-like performance with hard drive capacity, Adaptive Memory technology to optimize performance, and claims 80 percent faster performance than traditional 7200RPM drives in benchmark scores.
Now that they're affordable, I bought one. Soon I will know just how much my system performance is improved. I will be replacing an SSD, which is maxed out at the SATA I speed of my Lenovo notebook
This is faster than standard 5400rpm drive but not like SSD. It's more like a good 7200RPM drive and then only for reads. The 750GB version has an 8GB cache, 7200RPM magnetics and does read and write caching. Even that one is still far short of true SSD speeds but it's probably the fastest 2.5", 7200RPM platter based drive around.

A mechanical HDD that costs LESS than the pre-flood pricing? UNpossible.

Placed an SSD on my HP and it is fast. I plan to do the same for all my laptops. There is no going back.

I want the 750GB at this price....I don't think that's too much to ask.
