This drive was so overpriced to begin with, that I think it's the only magnetic that is below pre-flood prices. FWIW, it's pretty fast for a 5400RPM drive. There were some firmware issues at first but I believe they are all now resolved. Mine is going on at least 2 years now. I had some issues where I needed to warm reboot before the BIOS would recognize the drive, after which it would work fine until the next cold boot, but the latest firmware fixed that, Not a bad drive if you need 500GB of storage. Of course, a true SSD is a better choice if your storage needs are modest.

Techsupport, I thought this always has been a 7200 RPM drive to begin with.

My mistake. I thought it was this drive. :-/

I did not realize that seagate was making their newer generation hybrids at 500GB capacity. Mine was the previous generation so please disregard what I wrote above.

But I do also have the 750GB version of this drive (same generation) and it seems faster than any magnetic drive I ever had but still not on par with a pure SSD. Still, at this price it's a very good deal if you need that level of storage. There ain't no other spinning disk that will match it. This generation of drive will cache BOTH reads and writes with SSD memory.

Ha Ha, he got perma-oinked again. Dude, seriously, you shouldn't limit yourself to drive-bys where you fling your **** at everything. Temper your idiocy with constructive and useful comments once in a while and you'll be fine. The Ben's people are pretty tolerant of most stuff as long as you participate constructively at least some of the time.
I've posted a few dumb things and got single-oinked as well. Some comments I honestly regretted (like after Jobs actually went and really died..) but I try to also occasionally post honest opinions and advice, which sometimes still winds up being idiocy as in above, but at least it really was sincere idiocy.

Do not celebrate the misfortunes of others, #8. Since this is some sort of a Ben's Bargain confessional sacrament for you, something must have motivated you to repent... like... well I don't know... like winning a prize here recently...

Since your are a confessed Ben's Bargains sinner, there are four things required of a penitent in order to be worthily and receive the Ben's Bargains sacrament:

    1. You must be contrite or, in other words, be sorry for your BB sins.
    2. You must confess those BB sins fully, in kind and in number.
    3. You must be willing to do penance and make amends for your BB sins.
    4. And lastly, you must run around your neighborhood naked screaming out "I'm a geek". If anyone tries to speak to you while you streak the neighborhood, you must simply answer that you have a small wiener...

(and fix your link. It didn't work)...
