Best Buy has the Seagate STBD2000101 Barracuda 2TB 3.5" Internal Hard Drive for $100 with free pickup only. Discount reflected at final checkout. Features a 64MB cache, 7200RPM, and 6.0Gb/s SATA interface.
Count yourself lucky bacon, I had 3 of 3 go out, in my WHS as well, lost a lot of data. I was actually sitting here trying to remember which drives it was I told myself I was NEVER buying again, your comment jogged my memory. This would be an AWESOME deal if it was anyone but Seagate. Hell I would buy a hard drive from Shark, yeah the people that make small appliances, before I would buy another drive from Seagate.
Seacrap's warranty is down from 5 years not that long ago to 1 year now with a stop at 3 years on the way to one. That should tell you a lot about their drives right there.
They used to make a good HDD, emphasis on "used to".
How quickly we take things for granted. 5 years ago I would've jumped at the chance to buy a 2TB HDD with 1 yr warranty for $100. The golden era where everything seemed a great value without a rebate was actually only a 12 month period once in the history of mankind.
Anyone remember back when we were discussing on Ben's that HDDs had finally reached 50 cents per GB as if it was a milestone? Now we're at about 5 cents a GB...
For a little while, scanners were nearly free after rebate, and CDRW drives, memory, etc. but that's the past.
The website says 5 yr warranty and at that price that's too hard to resist especially when my current desktop drive is less than 500GB. It's worth the price to pickup locally and return it also after hard 4 year use. Just keeping the receipt.

Uhh, WHAT?
It's not Best Buy, it's Seagate that'll have to honor the warranty later and they do not seem to be covered for 5 years any more but even if they were you can't just return it after 4 years of use.
These are not the newest generation of drives. That being said, someone over at *another popular deals website* posted the drive with a serial number. Checked it at Seagate.com and it is covered under warranty for 5 years.

$100 is a pretty good deal. Too bad it's sold out. This was the RETAIL KIT which is a 5 year warranty, includes SATA cables and installation CD. Anything else which is a BARE drive only offers 1 year warranty.
Like many other Seagate drives, I had failure problems with them and returned them for exchange...5 of them so far. Those were the 400gb ones.
So far my hard drive evaluation software is warning me that my 1 TB Seagate drive is at 40% near failure. I have the 5 year warranty on it but until it actually fails, I have to keep using it.
does this herald the end of the hiperinflated storage prices?
2 out of 4 seagate drives failed in my hp whs within a year...

I Can Wait.
Why is it so hard to find the warranty information on this hard drive? Is it me? I cannot find it on Best Buy's website.
