Newegg has the Seagate STBD2000101 Barracuda 2TB 3.5" Internal Hard Drive for $100 with free shipping. Features a 64MB cache, 7200RPM, and 6.0Gb/s SATA interface.
Dropped 4 of these into the cart - I need to replace some 5.5+ yr old disks on an external array. Then looked at the 1 yr warranty. Seriously Seagate? 1 year? These are 64mb cache drives with 3.0Gb/s SATA interfaces.
Newegg has 64mb cache 2TB drives 6.0Gb/s for $110 too. Also 1 yr warranty for an OEM HDD. I'll pass.
It takes $200 to get a 3 yr warranty 2TB drive.
Staples has a $100 deal on the 64mb cache 2TB drives 6.0Gb/s now. 25% off coupons are working.
----- Been researching HDD models the last hour ... Seems both the ST2000DM001 and STBD2000101 models of Seagate HDDs have issues. They are noisy and it is believed that noise is from the APM power management parking the platters every 10 minutes or so. There is real concern over this on the Seagate Forums with many thousands of messages. The general consensus there is to avoid these models. Be careful out there if you are looking for a drive for an array or 24/7 powered system. For a home desktop for grandma, these are probably fine. She'll never here the clicks or chirps anyway.
^^ People who ignore the other factors don't understand much. Each generation of drives is usually faster than the prior regardless of the interface speed, with 3GB/s drives being the prior generation.
In other words there is every reason to get a 6Gb/s drive and none to get a 3GB/s drive unless the price is significantly lower or the warranty longer.
@fredfrugal - The specs on the website do show 5 year and when I bought 6 drives a couple months back, the box also listed a 5 year warranty. Worried about the same reviews and concerns, I checked the individual serial numbers against Seagate's warranty site and they did in fact come up with 5 year warranty dates +/- a couple months. I picked mine up in store though so I was able to validate that the retail box listed a 5 year warranty before buying.
No guarantees from me though on what is delivered / available now!

Flood prices, etc.
What flood? Seagate wasn't affected by the flood (higher elevation of plant) , this is price fixing due to a wink and a nod with WD.
waiting for pre-Katrina prices...
I ended up getting Seagate 2TB 6.0Gb/s drives for $100 on sale and it included 5 year warranties. It's available now for $110

yoFu, where do you see the 25% off coupon?
People worried about whether their spindle drives are 3.0GB/s or 6.0GB/s don't understand much.
@gmui--reviews on BestBuy.com say that this drive only has a 1-year warranty.
