I wonder how long these things hold their "charge". Citizen ecco drive watches can hold their solar charge for months. I hate having to recalibrate my watch because I have stored it for a few weeks(or days as with some self-winders). I also hate having to go to a jeweler to replace the battery.

The "see-through exhibition screwdown caseback" sounds sexy, but how the hell is anyone going to see it unless you take the watch off to show them, which just screams "I am a materialistic self obsessed moron"?

I had a couple of Kinetics back when they first came out, and they only held a charge for a day or two really; there's no way they'll last a few weeks. Also, you have to get the capacitors in these things replaced every few years, which is more expensive and takes longer than a battery (days or weeks).

So in conclusion, this watch is perfect for you.

I like Seiko in general, but not a Kinetic fan for the reasons above. Citizen does the 'no battery' thing far better with the EcoDrive.

Had my Seiko kinetic for nearly 10 years. Wore it every day for about 7, then put it away for 3. Just got it out a few months ago and it runs like new. After just a week or so it had reach the max charge and will run for weeks w/o activity. BTW, this isn't solar powered at all. Never heard nuthin' 'bout having capacitors changed.

The early ones had capacitors, but it looks like they got rid of them and started using lithium ion batteries around 2000 (which was about the time I got rid of my second Kinetic). The Li-ion ones also (apparently) have a much greater runtime than the capacitor ones.

Also, reading that reminded me that my Kinetics were extremely noisy (for a watch). The mechanism spins little gears that whir all day long. Cool if you like it, annoying if you don't.
