I don't know about these. They're pricey, and yet these aren't closed headphones. Sadness.

I've got the previous generation model HD590 and they are excellent sounding, smooth frequency response, and mellow midrange and decent base. Only objection is they lack brightness on the high end. Also very comfortable and durable.

I'm not personally attacking you, but I don't get why people spell "bass" as "base". Just a common typo or do people not know how to spell bass. Maybe the reason I notice this is because I play the bass. I don't know.

    I own HD555, HD280, and HD201.....

The HD555's are the best sounding and most comfortable headphones I've ever used. They made me fall in love with Tool again. Everything sounds good with them.

If you're looking for closed cans with awesome passive sound isolation, get the HD280's. They're the same price and sound pretty good and I can't hear very much outside them.

If you refuse to spend more than $30 on headphones, get the HD201. They're cheap, sound great and have enough padding that you can block out a lot of background sound.and they're cheap!

#1, these are entry-level audiophile grade headphones, they are very inexpensive compared to anything else that sounds as good, probably the best value out there.

"Yet these aren't closed". True, closed cans don't sound as good or else they'd all be closed. It's really only a factor if you're wearing them out and about where there is a lot of ambient noise or you'd offend others who had to listen, but you wouldn't want the geeky look of these full sized cans when you're out and about.

I have to agree with #5, these are very very comfortable. They also have great soundstage. For rock you might prefer something along the lines of a Grado but for multipurpose use these are about as good as it gets in the under $150 price range unless you find a really good deal on something else. Something that beats them at $70 or less? I don't recall ever seeing such a deal.

Also note that the rebate form is not Newegg specific, you can buy these from any authorized Sennheiser dealer. I'm not sure if the following is an authorized dealer but if they are they beat newegg at approx $88 delivered.

or you might bundle it with something else to get free shipping on other items above $25 order total at amazon.
