I have these and two other Sennheiser headphones (HD600 and PXC450). They work very well, and I would recommend them for any audiophile. I like them over all the Bose headphones I've tried.

Do iPods (3rd generation nano to be specific) have enough juice to drive these to a decent but not balring volume?

NOTE: I don't compress my music so these would be an upgrade to my current headphones. Thanks in advance.

These would be in the top five even at twice the price, and a great deal at $70.

These are 120 Ohm cans. It's going to take more juice to power these.

If you're looking for more efficient headphones, try one of these 32 Ohm cans:

    Sennheiser PX 100
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000089GN3/ref=cm_cmu_pg__header

    Sennheiser HD 202
    http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-HD-202-Headphones/dp/B000065BP9/ref=s11?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1227920050&sr=1-1

    Grado SR 60
    http://www.amazon.com/Grado-60-SR60/dp/B0006DPMU4/ref=s11?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1227920145&sr=1-1

Each of these headphones have their pluses and minuses, but for the money in their respective class, they are very good performers.

#2, Ipods can pump out power for these. I had them for a while, but traded them in for HD280Pro's because the open design is great at home but poor for traveling. But back to Ipods; they can rock these speakers.

HD202 are more portable due to the smaller size and weight, but don't sound as good. HD555 is arguably the beginning of the audiphile segment from Sennheiser.

A short but decent post on impedance and ipods or any other low impedance source at http://forums.ilounge.com/archive/index.php/t-189443.html.

The HD555 are 120 Ohm headphones. You will hear music but the volume achieved will be lower on your ipod or notebook without an amplifier. Better to go with a low impedance headphone for portables that do not pump out much current like a traditional home stereo would.

But it is all about user preference in the end. Whatever you like is right no matter what anyone else says.

    Stratman & others:

I have the PX-100's and the SR-60's. I don't have the HD202's, but I do have the HD201's, which are even less expensive, and are excellent for low cost headphones. The PX-100's are good, but I prefer the sound of the similar style and cost Koss PortaPro's. The SR-60's are good too, of course. I don't yet have the HD555's, but I am tempted, though I don't really need any more headphones since I have all those mentioned above and a few others in the same price/sound-quality range.

Are these the ones that are one step down from the HD600s?

Anyone know how these would compare to Grado SR80s? This looks like a great deal, but no use in upgrading if they wouldn't out perform the SR80s.

    Thanks!
