Why not just get a sata card instead of an adapter..

The flexibility and portability of this thing is pretty kewl. When your moving drives and data around this would be great and it supports SATA and IDE.

why not get a sata card? This makes swapping and checking drives much much easier. I think I may jump on one..

it could also be useful if you dont have any PCI slots available.

This is a great tool for those of us who are asked to help resolve computer problems.

I used this just last week to take a HD out from a "dead" computer, hook it to my Mac laptop via USB, and pull all the contents over to a "real" external drive.

The CPU is now at a computer shop and SEP (someone else's problem), and I saved the data without putting in tons of hardware troubleshooting time without personal compensation.

$14 well spent. This gadget should go in every computer guy's laptop bag.

I have something similar to this but for PATA. Good for testing harddrives but not really good for long term use since the drive is just sitting there.

It's basically the guts of an enclosure and #6 has it right on the nose. This is more of a techie tool than a shortcut to an enclosure. and it works WONDERFULLY with http://www.bensbargains.net/redirect/10342
