Unless you already own a memory foam mattress and you want to simply add to the confort level, I would not recommend one of these. If you use these on an existing box spring and you share your bed with your significant other, you will still sink towards each other which will in turn cause discomfort.
Ben needs a little help with math. $110 + $1= $111 in my book. It looks like Bush-inspired fuzzy math
I have one of these on my standard box xpring, a King size if it matters, and it is just fine. I can't really say if it has improved the comfort level of the mattress, but it hasn't degraded it. I do NOT sink toward my significan other as #1 claims. This is memory foam not air. Air mattress sink toward each other due to a lack of support in the center surrounded by "support" (the side walls draw tight). Memory foam has equal "support" across the entire surface, e the density rating. The density is the same on the edge as it is in the middle. One note to keep in mind, is that my kind topper is just slightly smaller than an actual king mattress. About 2 inches in one direction, while the other direction fits perfectly. This causes some annoyance, but I put the short end at the foot of the bed and at worst, your hells aren't supported by the foam.
I bought one last time around and it came so poorly packaged and over compressed into a too small box that was it torn in two from the stress.
The problem I have with these is that they retain heat much more than normal mattresses, normally its fine, but when its hot outside or the heat is on, it may be a bit warm.
The heat is definitely an issue, I use a quilted mattress cover to increase the breathability. Also the foam's elasticity does decrease over time, so the center of your mattress, where you sleep most often may develop a softer center, a bit uncomfortable. It helps a whole lot for folks who sleep tensely with arms tucked under the chest, the foam absorbs some of the weight. Thinking about upgrading to a higher density foam.
Bought one a couple years ago, but with less density than the Postur-Pedic 5.3# density. At first it was great, but I had the same problem #4 did with one side tearing out a chunk from another side when I unfolded it. Just recently though, the wife started having back problems so we got rid of it and she's better. If anything, go with the 5.3# density. Also if you sleep on your stomach, you want a 2.5-3" topper, whereas if you sleep on your back you want 4" or more. I did a search recently on Amazon.com and found a generic MF king-size bed for about $550, with the 5.3# density. Sounded like a good deal.
I've researched around to find out how memory foam compares to spring mattresses, and it seems like quality spring mattresses are still superior. My chiropractor recommended Duxiana, which is made in Sweden, but it's significantly more expensive than common brands like Sealy or Serta. I figure if I'm going to spend a third of my lifetime sleeping and how well I sleep affects my work performance, mood, etc., then it should be worth the money.
We use one we bought from the "big o" on our king size innerspring mattress. The wife and i both think it improves the existing mattress. It is about 2 inches shorter in the length and it is annoying if you put it at the head end because your pillow falls into the gap.
For my next bed, I'm going with the Simmons Beautyrest. I like the indivdually-wrapped coils idea.
Annas Linens is more afforable. I bought a BedinBag, decorative pillows, 400 thread count sateen sheet set, drape panels and rod for about $220 and the comforter is thick and has the rope around the edges note do not recommend the tassles if you have pets. My cats had a hey day with them so I took them off and let them have at it. I have had this set over 2 years now and my kittys did not mark their territory on it. recommend having the comforter shams and drapes/panels cleaned professionally.
