I got a great mattress topper from overstock a year ago... was more of the egg crate kind, but only $30. Well worth it if you have an older mattress
Memory foam beats the old egg crate type (though at higher cost of course), nothing else is quite the same. However, you best have a well air-conditioned bedroom in the summer, sleeping on thick synthetic pads gets hot otherwise.
Bought one of these last year, good stuff.
memory foam is fantastic if you've got a cheap mattress. i used one for a year when i slept on a futon mattress. got mine at costco though (novaform) which i then returned after the year was up and i moved away.
#2 how bad is the "sweating", some relatives told me that these get quite hot since they dont "breath" as natural fibers...
Never had much of a problem with sweating, but of course I run the a/c in the summer (who doesn't??), along with a ceiling fan.
If you're worried about staining or ruining the foam, buy a waterproof mattress pad. Otherwise, a regular mattress pad will do. Helps hold the foam in place (even as heavy as it is, my 4" foam topper will move around on top of the mattress).
Of course, you might have to buy sheets made for a thicker mattress once you get one of these, and even the mattress pad will have to be for a thicker mattress too.but it's all worth it, once you sink into the foam!
Even with a pad over it, it still radiates more heat. I suppose some people are more hot blooded than others, I keep my AC just right for being up in the daytime and don't turn it lower at night so on memory foam it is hotter than not being in bed, or in bed but not on synthetic foam. The issue isn't staining, it's just being less comfortable without wasting electricity to turn the AC down further than it would normally need to go.
just bought a serta mattress and it is hard as a rock, no wonder they make these.
