A lot of people give these things baconnaise, especially people who have no real understanding of how sound/audio works. I live in NYC and use my iPod on a daily basis. These are very comfortable and have a great sound. Please read the cnet review, I agree with what they have to say.

    Remember:
Plug them into an iPod or computer and run music through them overnight to help break them in.
Squeeze the tips before putting them into your ear so the foam can expand and create a perfect seal.

Final Note: There are better products, just not for this price. Jump on this deal.

this is not a deal, just because the SCL4s are on a few sites for $79. comparison: the SCL4s are the space shuttle, while most sennheisers are a paper airplane.

#2 - WTH? You probably cannot get SCL4s for $79 anywhere today. That deal was for white only, it's been out-of-stock since right after Christmas everywhere (watched my brother-in-law burn over an hour going through all those sites trying to get his pair...), and they (the whites) are reported discontinued so all those sites saying they'll have 'em back in stock in January are just gonna be pretty much another crapshoot. The SCL4s are truly excellent, but they're > $200 today - these are decent and will work for most folks at a fraction of the price of SCL4s.

Now this is approaching my comfort zone for earbuds... I'm still wary of spending more than $50 on a pair (and yes, my hearing is excellent - I just don't care about any differences above that price point).

Anyone use these for classical music or critical recordings?

#3 i just bought them (SCL4) yesterday from guitarcenter.com - $79.99 with free shipping, plus 5% live cashback. i understand your concerns about the whole backorder/discontinued issue, but people on FW have called guitar center and their CS explicitly stated that they're getting another shipment on the 19th. for that price, it's a no brainer to at least try your luck with the backorder.

I've learned to take any testing results from Consumer Reports with several grains of salt. Over the years they've become much more biased with their testing. Basically if there is some product they like, or don't like, they can and often do try to report in such a way to make you believe what they want. It's kind of sad really. All I use their results for now is comparison among products rated, and even then it's not always super useful.

I recently had a bad experience with 6ave.com. Tried ordering the SE210's and they sent me the SE110's, which costs a lot less. They were terrible at getting me the correct pair so I wound up canceling the order. Thumbs up on SE210's (I've heard them) but thumbs down on 6ave.com.
