Newegg has the has the SiliconDust HDHomeRun PRIME CableCARD Premium Digital Cable Television with 3 Digital Tuners, Black (HDHR3-CC) for $130 with free shipping. Compatible with Windows Media Center on Windows 7 and other DVR applications. JR.com has it for the same price with coupon code USMEDALS.
So does a single cablecard allow tuning three separate protected channels simultaneously or only one ?
I don't have direct experience but I have read about dual-tuner Tivo devices requiring dual cablecards. Albeit, that was a while ago so don't know if cablecard technology has advanced. Most cablecos charge you a per card rental fee so I doubt they would innovate themselves towards less revenue.
It uses an "M Card", which can tune multiple channels. I use it to record 3 simultaneous programs with MythTV, with a single Comcast M-Card.
Thanks guys, now I need to figure out if they charge more for the M-card, assuming it's available in my area.
