HandHelditems.com has the Sim Card chip for unlocking the iPhone 3G for $18 + $3 shipping = $21 shipped. Designed to sim-unlock only the iPhone 3G. It frees the iPhone to work on different carriers' network of different countries.

how reliable is this sim unlocking device? remember that antenna extension device that went in the back of the cellphones several years ago that sold for $50? That was a joke.

#2, The 'chip' feels like a piece of ribbon cable, not much thicker than a piece of paper. I have a few other brands of these that do work but the sim card needed to be trimmed on one end for a small chip that protrudes from the ribbon. Also #3 is correct, ebay is the way to go, all three of mine were between $7 - $12 shipped.

What carriers will it work w/ when unlocked? Will any sim card work? Or better: any sites out there that explain this?

only at&t and t-mobile have GSM 3G networks so you got only one other choice in the US.

"of different countries"... I do believe that this for use in other countries, not other carriers in the US.

i've got at&t, but dont want to pay for the "iphone" plan. Does anyone know if you can use this, stay on the at*t network, and still use the regular voice only (no data) plan instead of having to switch over to the "iphone" plan?

Couldn't get this to work because the guy's fingers which are stuck to it wouldn't allow it to seat into the phone.
