Didn't you have one of those "75 in 1 electronic project kits" with the thin wires and springs to attach to the resistors and capacitors? Those were the days.
I was too much of a klutz (perhaps still am) to deal with those at that age. I had a hard time with soldering iron so the whole experience of building small boards was not very pleasant.

I had the x-in-1 sets too, also an older set that used paper schematic overlays on a pegboard, very similar to these. I got this for my son, but he was not interested. Shame.
