is it as good as regular DSLR?
tommytqt - I'd suggest doing your own research to compare full size DSLR and micro four-thirds cameras..... both have pro's & con's.
Dethalynx: it's an aps-c sensor, bigger than m4/3. Full-frame DSLRs are way more $$.
tommytqt: as good as a DSLR? compared to similarly-priced DSLRs, IQ wise probably yes. BUT... no viewfinder & no built-in flash are a dealbreaker for some people. Yes there's an optional EVF & flash... but they add to the price tag and I'm pretty sure you can't use the EVF and flash at the same time.
This NEX 5N have the same sensor as the Nikon D7000 and Pentax K5. Expect top of the line image quality comparable to any crop sensor DSLR. I think the 1 thing that turn people off the most about the NEX is focus speed, specially in low light situation. Also focus tracking will be a lot slower than a DSLR.
For me the whole point of using mirrorless is the portability. With the lenses Sony has this is hard. Most of their lenses are big and the selection is not good. Micro 4/3d have many more lenses, and a decent selection of pancake primes among them...
The price shows at $649 instead of $630.
The focus performance can be improved if SLT lens adapter (LA-EA2) for Alpha mount lenses installed. That way you can use Sony alpha mount Lens and filly use the built-in phase-detection AF module to speed up the focus speed. However it does cost you some $$ ( $399) and maybe just good for someone who already own Sony alpha mount lens.
