Does this come with a receiver and if it does how does it look like? B/c dell site doesn't display anything on that. Thanks!

I've heard this system before when it was $999.00, definately not worth that price but this price is worth it.

The speakers are microscopic: 1.8 in x 1.6 in x 2.2 in. Wouldn't expect much from them.

Besides, Sony (and their root kits) Sucks!

    Just ask Todd...

The receiver/amplifier section is built into the woofer. How many ways can I comment on how bad this system is?
    - Receiver in the bass unit means that you always have to have line of sight to the subwoofer (I hesitate to call it a subwoofer, don't know if it really goes low enough to truly qualify) if you want an IR remote to work. Depending on your room acoustics, subwoofers don't necessarily work best where you can see them.

    - Having an amplifier built into the bass unit means it's small - no real power in the amplifier section.

    - Tiny <1" drivers in the satellites are practically useless at reproducing anything below an average man's speaking voice. What this means is that the lower octaves of Darth Vader's voice are going to have to come from the bass unit, instead of coming from the center channel. I've heard this in Sony Style stores (not with Darth Vader), but it's an awful effect.

For $300, you can often find Energy Take systems + a cheap Onkyo receiver - better than this in almost every way.

I have this thing. I got it a few months ago for $300. I'm no audiophile, but it is pretty decent. The one thing that really sucks about it is that there is no OSD. The display is on the top of the base unit. Thus if you want to see what's going on as far as volume or amplifier information or fm channels, you have to stand up to look at it. Other than that, the sound is decent, the speakers are small and yes, it does have a receiver.

@aliasfox: The IR remote sensor is on the central speaker, not the base which makes it more useful.

Like I said, I'm no audiophile, but it makes my movies and PS3 sound way better than the tv alone (which isn't saying much).

#6, thanks for correcting me. I'm not surprised that it sounds better than what comes out of your TV - most TVs have speakers in their cabinets not much bigger than the satellites in this system. That said, the price that they're asking at retail, this leaves a lot to be desired. I don't necessarily consider it a bargain, but if it makes you happy, then more power to you.

as a side note, i spoil myself with the audio portion of my home theater, so i have some fairly high standards...

#6, I just ordered this from dell. Can you tilt the sub/amp forward say 30 degrees to see the display on top while sitting 10 feet away?
