hmm, I wonder how this compares with the Cannon G9. Does anyone know? It seems that they're about the same price range, and have similar specs.

I think the Canon pics are more colorful. If you can, take a pic of the same thing with both cameras. You will agree, the Canon pic just looks better. The Sony pic is loaded with detail, but it does not look as good to me as the Canon, side by side.

This has a much larger zoom range than the G9.

Color is subjective and easily modified. The Canon consumer cameras tend to be more saturated than the Sony equivalents, while the Sony will be more natural. The heavily saturated colors may be initially pleasing - similar to heavy bass in music, which initially sounds "rich" - but I'd rather have the option to oversaturate it myself if that's what I choose to do.

same price range? DOOOOD, the g9's msrp is $500..

how are they even remotely in the same price range?

not to mention the g9's redundant megapixel increase. it's really burp stupid at this point, and i can't believe the market helps them with this trend.

Hopefully DSLR prices will fall next and Ben will keep us updated.

Don't remember seeing a better sub $300 camera deal. Lots of features for the price but I've never had good luck with Sony products except for their Trinitron TV's.

stick your fanboy ways up your ass, #14. hmmm, he seems to have forgotten that cameras exist outside of the canon realm. [there does exist sony, panasonic, olypmus, fuji, casio, etc. etc.]

please don't compare this camera to Canon G9. because G9 is in a totaly different level(only one step away from DSLR). The only thing this camera is better than G9 is the 10X optical zoom, which G9 has 6X. everything else G9 is better.

#18, have you owned a Sony camera in the last 5 years?

If so, I'm calling user error on this. I've used a myriad of Sony cameras in the last several years and they've all taken excellent photos. Are you trying to take pictures of black cats in dark alleys at 2:00am?

This camera gets good reviews. Check out dpreview.com. The only thing I can tell that I don't like about it is it takes Sony Memory stick.

I wish companies like sony and Apple would just standardize! But that is my soapbox.
