these cameras look cool, but you aren't going to pull me away from my canon roots.
I happily retired my old canon point and shoot for this one.
Canon has no options for 30mm on the wide end in this price range whatsoever. Once you get to the price of the 870is and it's relatives you're looking at a shorter zoom range. The only other choice for wide angle point & shoot from canon is the G10 and you're talking another price segment altogether.
Canon's roots are deficient in wide angle shooting. I say this as the owner of 5 L's.

#3 is correct with a capital 'C'. Just picked up the W170 a few days ago for $209. I was torn between that and Canon's 890IS but as was mentioned the Canon did not have the option to take wide angle photos. Only downside is sony requires memory sticks
