Thank you TheBS, for helping clarify the difference between subjective and objective.
I am friends with several Nikon D300 owners and have met several others. I love to use their stuff. Virtually all of them have never used a D40. Over half of them tell people they should buy a D40, based on the Nikon name, while more and more them will openly say buy a used D80 instead for the same price and bash the hell out of the D40 as "crap" (yes, a camera of the same brand they own).
Most of them see my Pentax system and realize I paid a lot less. Why? Because I'm a novice, not even an amateur.
I have other colleagues who are also novices and bought a Rebel XT, using nothing more than the stock kit lens. They bought it for start-up time, they didn't want to miss pictures of their kid. Guess what? They're blurry. Now Canon has brought down the cost of their in-lens IS kit lens, and that has helped, but it's another $150 or so for them. And two of my friends have already broke their XTs.
My colleague here at work has a D40. He thought it was the greatest thing since sliced bread. Then we did some shots of the New York skyline. First thing he asked was, "you have bracketing?" And I was like, "yeah, basically those D40s are the only things that don't in the last 3-4 years."
If you are going to buy an entry-level camera, t... [Truncated]
#20,
I hope you don't get STDs from $ony.
#19,
For $1000 or less, I can put together a better system from either Canon or Nikon than this shitcan you call a camera & lens.
To the rest,
Whether you are a amateur of a pro/sumer. You should look beyond the camera bodies. To most professionals and amateurs alike glass is more important because it defines image quality. So why would you want to limit yourself to a small range of Sony glass while Canon or Nikon offers you much more at a lower price as well in the long run. Oh and one more thing, if you shoot Canon or Nikon, you can buy adapters that allow you to shoot Leica/Zeis... glass, with $ony you are baconnaise out of luck.
In conclusion: $ony can go suck my hairy balllzz.
phazeless got p0wned!!
#24, what kinda crack you on? p0wned? I just don't have patient with stupidity. Just ask yourself this, if you know what you are doing, and have been doing it for years, would you bother arguing with baconeer who BS out of their ass?
I'd rather provide useful information for the rest of the people who want to take it than trying to prove to a nobody something beyond their comprehension.
Friends with owners of D300, pfff, I have friends who own studios, and I am in the process of opening one myself soon. I shot with the D3, MarkIII, M6, M8, Hassy. A lot of my friends still don't impress me with their expensive camera gear. On the other hand, I also have friends who shoot with Canon XT and Nikon F3/F5 (film), S3, S5 for weddings, and their images are better than those with expensive gear because they know their craft and invest heavily in glass, not stupid bodies.
In conclusion: $ony can go suck my hairy bballzz.
Any chance you'll ever stop conflicting with yourself?
And I quote ...
For $1000 or less, I can put together a better system from either Canon or Nikon than this shitcan you call a camera & lens.
Which is it?
I mean, you keep extolling the virtues of "invest heavily in glass, not stupid bodies," then turn around and say you can build a Canon or Nikon system for under $1,000. You're are continually making conflicting statements -- switching to bodies when it suites your argument, then back to glass when it does, but utterly ignoring the cost of a system under $1,000, and giving 0 exam...
