Sony Style has the refurbished Sony HT-DDW795 Component Home Theater System for $100 with free shipping. An 850 Watt (RMS) AV receiver pumps the sound through a 5.1 channel speaker system. It has an auto calibration feature (microphone included) to calibrate the 5.1 speakers.

Systems like that were the rage 10 years ago and cost 10 times as much. I like the calibration capability...

When I buy Sony product- I normally consider the 1/10 of claimed wattage as continue wattage.

#3, what did you get the Z-5500's for? And are you using it as a HT setup?

The deal seems okay, but what's the Sony warranty on the refurb?

"Factory-Certified Refurbished Products come with a Limited Warranty covering 90 days, parts & labor."

It was back in stock last night, but out of stock again today. Wish I'd bought it. I'm tired of my pathetic speakers. I'm guessing this is one of those things they get more of periodically.

And by the way, my folks apparently *have* one of these- the receiver that is. It's pretty nice.

However, it doesn't come with the iPod cradle for its proprietary digital media port. It's like a $100 aftermarket accessory. And in any case, if for some insane reason you wanted to stream video from your iPod, it'd have to go over a separate, composite video cable to a different input (so you'd have to swap between inputs for your iPod OSD and video feed).

*THAT ASIDE* it's a pretty good entry-level system if you've just been using your TV's speakers up to now.
