Amazon has the Sony ICF-S10MK2 Pocket AM/FM Radio (Silver) for $9 with free shipping on $25+. Has a built-in monophonic earphone jack and is powered by two AA batteries (not included). Excellent Amazon reviews.

No, not recently. I didn't realize AM/FM broadcast radio was obsolete...

If the end of civilization comes there will be plenty of people transmitting because it's the RF range practically everyone has a receiver for. The nice thing about this unit is it takes AA cells so you can power it with Eneloops.

Amazon also has a similar Panasonic for a buck more - http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-RF-P50-Pocket-Radio-Silver/dp/B00004T1XE

Actually this looks like the pocket radios we had in the '60s. I wonder how many transistors it has.

Considering it's Sony, it's probably a '60s model updated with DRM.

Want one that uses those new rectangle shaped batteries; think they are 9 volts.
