CircuitCity.com has the Sony MDR-NC7 Noise-Canceling Headphones for $40 with free shipping. Enhance your listening experience and reduce unwanted ambient noise by 87.4 percent. Dual use capability allows for the option to listen to music with or without noise cancellation.
Just picked these up (same price) at Best Buy last weekend. I used them on a plane ride back from holiday travels. The noise-canceling capability is actually pretty good. They're not the over-the-ear style (which I avoided for ear comfort), so they don't naturally block out as much noise. With the noise-canceling feature turned on, however, there was a noticeable elimination of engine noise. They're not the best headphones out there, so if you're looking for a high-end set, look elsewhere. To me, though, they strike the right balance of sound quality, noise canceling, and price.
One word of caution, though... These are not the most comfortable headphones I've worn. Since the earpieces are not cups, they require both ear tension and resting on top of the head to stay in place. Unfortunately, the top bar is hard plastic and has a hinge smack-dab in the middle. Despite the endorsement above (which is genuine), I'm considering other options based on comfort alone.
Are they still in business?
what kind of batteries do these take?
