Lowest price I've seen on a internet streaming BD player.
I have not purchased a HDTV yet, so I am running a old tube type TV connected to a converter box. Is there a way to connect one of these Blu-ray players to an older TV? Maybe connect the player to the converter box?
I want to sign up for NetFlix and be able to stream movies from my router to my old TV. Then when I pull the trigger on a new HDTV I will be able to use the Blu-ray player is my plan.
This is probably a dumb question...but hey just look at my user name!
Looking at the reviews, some people are having quality issues with streaming Netflix with this unit.
Got one of these for $119 + $12 shipping from Conn's a month back, then they jacked it up to $250 right afterward. Unit has connectors ranging from composite to HDMI so it'll fit pretty much any tube TV except those which take only a coax input (in which case you'll need an adapter or switcher box).
I don't know about your converter box since they're all different. Seriously, I'd pull the plug now on an HDTV...you'll never look back.
I built an HTPC and never looked back. It's a lot more cash but it just works with everything.
#2, One of my BD players is hooked up to our old Sony CRT TV via RCA composite cables. We are currently using it as a DVD player and a netflix streaming device for the kids until we upgrade the TV and use it for playing BD dics.
As long as your TV or converter box has composite inputs (Red and White for audio, yellow for video) then you can hook something like this up.
They have increased price to $165
$137.98 total but I understand the S470 loads faster and the remote has a open/close button.
Hmmm... I understand that the N470 doesn't exist. http://www.google.com/products?q=sony+N470&hl=en&aq=f
Also a lot more maintenance and much longer startup times if you power it down. IMO internet connected PCs are a PITA to maintain. And lets not forget how unreliable PC components are (ex. hard drives).
Still waiting for the $99 mark to replace my HD-DVD player.
