Proprietary 12-channel GPS receiver? 12 channels? Hell... even my cheap ass Cobra GPS has 18. And using a proprietary Sony GPS chip? Sure... THAT inspires confidence.
I have this. It's got a nice fingerprint-proof screen, with automatic glare-sensing/adjusting...the Sony touch. Only downside is it's got small storage. In order to load Canada maps, I had to remove Western US. I'm probably gonna sell mine, because I need all US and Canada, based on my travel needs. Anyone interested? $250.
#3 - someone was saying (so, this is not substianted) that there are simply not 18 sats for GPS ... the capability fot 18 is more of a selling point (like MP for cameras instead of lens etc) .... have u checked how many the cheapass locks on to?
Why anyone buy this if this does not have SIRF. I woould say one will be better of with Garmin 320 ~$250. If you want SIRF and don't want to pay more then MIO310x seems to be the only choice.
I have this, and the Mio310x, and the Sony unit picks up a GPS signal *within* my house where the Sirf-based Mio does not, and takes a long time to lock in on a signal at startup. On the plus side, I can fit Canada and most of the S (had to delete Guam, Puerto Rico, and Alaska!) and the Mio is hackable.
When did Sony get into GPS?
I think the Sony Nuvi is the best.
