Even if a rootkit was installed, this thing is still better than an iPod

#1 I agree. As much as we hate Sony, I have to admit this Sony MP3 offers so much more than the POS ipod. Look at that: MPEG4 / M4V / MP3 / WMA / AAC. Even the exemplary Sansa doesn't do all those formats.

I've had mine for a couple of weeks and it's a really nice player. I'm enjoying watching video podcasts on it. I thought that it would be hard to enjoy watching something on a 2" screen, but it works really well. What's really handy is that you can watch part of a video and then switch over to listen to music, and it keeps track of where you are in both the song and the video so you can switch back and forth. I like being about to search for songs using album art. It has a really nice feel to it as well. An all metal case that is very well built.
The only thing I'm not happy with are the earbuds that come with it. They sound great, but the cord is very short. They do include an extender cable, but even using that it barely reaches when I have it in my front pant pocket. The cord on these buds are about half as short as the cord on the Sony 51 and 71's earbuds which also come with a extender cord. I can't understand why the cord is this short. Even if you put the player in a shirt pocket it would barely make it without the extra cord.
Buy all in all for this price this is one fantastic player.
BTW you can DL the Sony Media Manager for WALKMAN 1.1 free from Sony. What's great is that for only $13 you can upgrade it to the Pro version which will convert any video file format so it can play on the player. This is really handy because I was having problems finding a converter that worked without a lot of hassle. With the Media program, all you have to do is drag and drop a file into it, hit transfer, and it converts it on the fly and puts it on your player. This is very handy if you have MOV or AVI files that you would like to watch. It also will resize pictures on the fly so they take up less space on the player. With both the video and photo conversions, it doesn't change the file on your PC. Which is also handy because you don't end up with two copy's of all your files.
