I was excited to see the price, until I realized it was refurbished. Ack!
Also, to those saying to just do the credit card deal: Keep in mind that as you are applying for a credit card, your credit will be checked. Applying for additional credit typically lowers your credit score. Just a heads up!!
I pass on Sony products every chance I get. They used to rule. Now I just consider them overpriced and lacking in quality.
PS3 is still far better than Xbox since it's both media player and game console. Get the Sony card deal to close the gap between their prices.
I have a refurb PS3 (backwards compatible) and it runs fine. Not sure if this runs PS2 games, but it's still a pretty decent deal. The guy was right about the game installs, it is kind of a buzz kill, so I would recommend no less than 160GB drive if you plan on buying several games. PSN network doesn't compare favoribly to Live IMO..but then again, I don't use it often. Home is kind of interesting, but it's mostly a side diversion.
I disagree with #23 about the PS3 being a better media player. My 360 is just as able with digital media as my PS3. Actually it's slightly easier because of the media center interface with Windows. BluRay is the only advantage..and to be honest I only watch the occassional BluRay disc.
I would definitely choose the PS3 over 360. At least you won't have to pay any additional money to play online. Plus it comes with a Bluray player. That itself already costs like $200+
Honestly, the Ps3 Card deal doesnt sound that appetizing to me. http://news.cnet.com/8301-13845_3-10286125-58.html
You have to jump through so many hoops, a 6 month waiting period, and you have to continually charge about 500 month of your card. They just want you to spend money, that aint saving, if you are well established in life, maybe a good deal. But for a college student/working full time. not the best.
Yea this is a good deal if you are ok with refurbished. I can say this... I use PlayOn and watch hulu/netflix/youtube on my PS3. I have used my PS3 to do remote play with PSP as well. Lack of games isn't an issue, because majority of the PS3 games are terrific. When you have too many games the sheer possibility that they are crap is higher.
If you guys are willing to wait however.. a SLIM is in the works! I have no idea how much it would cost, but it could be more appealing to some people. Just helping people avoid buyers remorse. I always hold off console purchases near thanksgiving/christmas time.
Still a little expensive for an excellent blu-ray player. I'm not really into gaming.
Don't waste your time with this sorry excuse for a Blu-Ray player. Get an Xbox 360 and a fully functional Blu-Ray player from Amazon or NewEgg.
#7 , I guess since you have a 120" screen you are not really that concerned with the cost, but what do you spend on blu-ray movies per month? are you renting or buying? Is your 120" screen a 1080p projector?
I only have an xbox360 but my favorite part is the unlimited streaming movies from netflix. for the price of a gold membership ($40 for 13 months) and $8/month for netflix you get quite a large assortment of movies and old tv series to watch.
Does the PS3 have anything like this available?
for blu-ray I think I would just get a blu-ray drive for the computer if I was to get into that but dealing with disks seems like an old fashioned way to watch movies.
sold out
Sold out, however you can get a brand new PS3 from Dell.com for $339 with coupon code: 65G7RQ11J?M2LH.
IMO - Getting a brand new unit for an additional $60 is a much better deal.
is this backwards capable?
waiting for the slim
who say this is a good deal, apply for a sony card and get this much cheaper, bens post it about 10 time up here.
not a good deal.the credit card deal is still on i believe. $100 off instantly if you get their credit card. and u can get a BRAND new ps3. plus if you spend $3000 within first 3 mo, u get another $100 off and spend anoter $3000 3 mo afterwards and you get another $100 off.
My 360 permanently burnt scratched rings in discs.
My ps3 works like a charm.
PS3.
Just ordered one for $279. Let's see if it goes through.
