Save your money and get a similarly configured HP, or Dell, or whatever for $100 less. They are of the same quality.

I don't think we can find an HP or Dell with the same specs for $100 less. VAIO laptops are good but the XP and x64 drivers are hard to find. Also, this laptop doesn't support Expresscard /54.

Sony PCs and laptops are not a good choice.

During the past 8 years, I have used different makes of laptops (provided by my company-yearly lease). I would rate them like this, better ones first.
      >
      IBM/Lenovo
      DELL
      HP
      Compaq.

I don't know where to put Sony in this list as I haven't used it yet. But my boss has had it for a while and seems to be very happy about it.
But I have a feeling that #7 is going to make a snide comment about this.

that is of absolutely no help to this thread. however, i applaud you for not making a snide comment such as this one.

i have a feeling #6 is going to edit his comment and say i made a snide comment.

compare this and netbooks, if size/weight don't matter.

This is the cheapest I've seen for a Vaio.

I worked on my brother's VAIO. PITA!! The hard drive was hidden under the keyboard and after years of dealing with Dells, I was amazed at how difficult it was to get it out.

This is better quality than the typical HP/Compaq you'd get for the same price or less.
