Best Buy has Star Trek: The Next Generation Next Level on Blu-ray for $10 with free shipping. Features three iconic episodes (Encounter At Farpoint, Sins Of The Father, and The Inner Light) remastered in 1080p high definition and 7.1 audio. Amazon has it for the same price with free shipping on $25 or more.
It was shot and mastered on 35mm film and framed at 4:3 ratio. Depending on the density of the scanning to digital, these should have the same number of pixels per inch as 1080p but they were framed for 4:3 so you will have gaps or black bands on the sides. Check out Bertie Buggerington's review on Amazon for more detail.
Remastered in 1080p is more marketing lingo. 35mm film has far more detail than 1080p.
I am tempted to get this after it has dropped to $10.49 on Amazon. I just hate buying this and then having duplicates when I purchase the series.
35mm has unlimited resolution but depending on the equipment used to shoot in 35mm will determine what digital resolution you can get that looks decent.
It probably was not shot in HD so "remastered in 1080p" means upscaling. Something you can do with a DVD.
Call me when the remaster DS9.

The Inner Light episode is superb.

@btc909. Really? So individual pixels on 35mm film are smaller than a plank length? That is astonishing.
