True, this is a deal. Now all that is left to determine is whether it is a cheap deal or an expensive deal.
From that perspective, I would suggest it is one of the more expensive PCs I have seen in quite a while.

this is just a sample of what a typical dinner conversation is like at the NorthSouth house. but keep in mind the conversation, just as above, takes place completely within NorthSouth's mind as he hovers over the sink eating something he just microwaved and staring blankly at the brick wall that faces his efficiency apartment.
Unfortunately, the Studio XPS desktops are just rebranded Inspirons. I bought one a month ago and it started running into problems. When I opened it up, I was shocked to see that the inside of the case looked almost identical to the Inspiron series desktops. It has a non-standard motheboard with 4 SATA ports, 2 PCI slots, and 1 PCI-E slot. Huge disappointment (especially since I'm out of the 21 day return period).
I'd be suprised if any Dell came with anything but a non-standard motherboard; they skimp on quality to increase the bottom line. You pay for the convenience of not having to build the computer yourself, not so much for the quality of the parts. For almost the same price someone could build the computer this should be.
The IT where I work controls our PC purchases and insist on Dell.
We pay thousands of $, out of OUR department's budget, for pc's with 1/2 the speed of my sub 1k$ home-builts. Then there's reliability.
Nice machine - BIG bang for the buck. CS4 sees 8 cores and renders at amazing speeds. I opted for the 4850, bluray and other misc options. Could not build it for the price - esp for the warranty and my time.
Not a great deal. A few days ago they offered a similar system for $899 with a 2-yr warranty, free shipping and a $100 gift card. Also you can save 7% if ordering through EPP.
