From my understanding, the issue with the core i7 is the L2 cache is super weak at 256k per core for a total of 1MB L2. I think it's supposed to be 8MB L3. Also, the 6GB of ram is meaningless unless it's 64-bit windows.

How would this compare to a BYOB? I haven't build a computer in several years, and this seems like it would be a fairly good gaming box.

#4, for the price, the video card sucks. Doesn't seem like a deal to me.

Could use a better graphics card, but I'm looking to get a PC purely for work. I can get 64-bit Windows free and legal, so I'm considering this.

I dont know why you wouldnt build your own system today. It is easier than ever, and everything is better.

#4 - you could build a better one for yourself. For a gaming box the graphics card is weak. Also not sure what mobo they're using. If you're into OC'ing, you might want to check it out.

graphics card is not an issue as the prices are dropping but the motherboard and ram are still very expensive and this is fairly cheap.

This machine is very tempting. I just can't live with that video card and bottom listed cpu. Then again, Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall. Maybe I should just get used to being faster than 95% of the population. No! I can't!

Now let's see.. go ghetto on the RAM, buy it yourself at higher a frequency. Max out the cpu. Max the video card. Buy a 3ware raid card with 4 SSD's in RAID 0. Replace the ps with one above 400 watts. Man, I wish they just sold the barebones. Yep, ok.

On second thought, I'll just build it myself.

Good deal on the latest Intel CPU Smile ... and this one uses tri channel DDR3, unlike that deal last week on an i7 with old skool dual channel DDR2

Hmmm pretty low cost considering how much i7 hardware costs currently. Definitely tempting but I would never go for it.

seems like a waste to get a nice cpu but get the crappy dell parts with it.

I was pricing parts from newegg on a new build and it came out to about 800 dollars. Parts were way better than this system. If you are willing to spend some time putting a computer together, then I wouldn't recommend getting this system.

The trouble with roll your own is always the OS... if you can get Windows cheap, or don't mind stealing it, you're OK. Otherwise, buy a Dell and upgrade the graphics card isn't too bad a plan. If you're going to upgrade anyway, get the cheapest parts they sell.
