So a friend asked me to find out why her computer was so slow. Task Manager showed one program was using from 82% to 96% of the cpu. It was a Norton program. Her "1 year free" Norton had expired. Whenever she rebooted she replied "No" to paying for more. But the Norton thingy hung around and ate CPU.
I uninstalled Norton and enabled Windows Antivirus. Now her computer runs like a rocket.
