Newegg has the Synology DS712+ Diskless System Network Storage for $450 - 10% off with coupon code VMEPROMOMAR13 [Exp 3/21] (when you check out with V.me by Visa) = $405 with free shipping. Costs around $493+ in other stores. Features 1.8GHz CPU, 1GB DDR3 RAM, and 2 x 3.5"/2.5" SATA-II hard disk drive interface.
Can someone explain why this is better than a cheap computer set up to be a network disk?
^ Has to be for someone who has a particular set of needs beyond just getting the job done.
This is plug 'n play (incl. OS ready to use), hot swap bays, uses less power, smaller form factor for # of bays.
On the other hand, only 2 x 3.5" bays for this price, or even half that... definitely a niche product.
