This is a good recorder, but don't expect good results if you're handling it while using the built-in mics. Lots of noise. If you leave it alone, it works great.

Bought one of these last year for $180. Works great, and is a much higher-quality unit that competitors in its price range.

I use it to make simple but high-quality recordings of concerts with a stereo AT-822 microphone (~$300).

Note: NEVER record with the thumbwheel below "5" because you will clip loud passages. Use the Low-Med-High presets in the recording menu appropriately so that you can use a setting on the thumbwheel of 6 or higher. (I can show on paper why this is so; basically there are some preamps ahead of the thumbwheel.)

Oh, and as another person mentioned: there are mics built in but expect to get a ton of handling noise if you hold it. Much better to mount it on a tripod.
