wonder if they still make the TI-92 (plus) that thing was a beast.
I own the TI-89 and the TI92. The only nice thing is the TI92 has a huge screen and full keyboard. Excellent for typing in my cheat sheet for exams during college. Now it's gathering dust...

I don't see them around anymore...wonder if they have been discontinued. The Ti-89 does the same but smaller.

Well, I started out with both a Casio FX-7700 and Ti-89. I then bought a HP 48G and never used the other two. I've had it for 16 years now, and only changed the batteries 3 times. Man, those were the days when HP really knew how to build a calculator!

I bought a HP 49G+ in 2003 and it didn't last 15 months -- couldn't take any beating. HP exited the market turn-of-the-century, because their products sucked. Luckily they returned just a few years ago, and changed their approach. I bought a HP 50G when they release it last year and it's a crapload better -- what the HP 49G+ should have been -- especially with all my former HP 48G libraries/firmware/solutions.

I hated RPN the first few times I tried it. But I took one physics assignment in college and forced myself to use RPN to do it. I never, ever hard worker I typically use "galculator" when I'm on my computer or notebook (Linux) in its RPN mode, but I still keep my HP 50G in my desk and my 48G in my bag. Many I've abused the heck out of my 48G (totally bent frame, etc...).

#3 right on, RPN all da way! I can't even use a calculator with parentheses! In acoustics class, the equations would fill a page across (in tiny type), there was no way I could repeatedly solve it with an algebraic calculator. With my HP, first time solved it.

The positive clicks and direct solving using rpn give me confidence in my calculating!

Now if I can just fix my dislexia....

I think the days are over for good products from HP. They used to make all kinds of cool stuff, solidly built. Now it's consumer junk.

DOnt do this !! I did this same deal last year and i never got the rebate back. after 8 weeks they said that i didnt send a recipt with the mail and they were lying or they lost my recipt. after a lot of arguing with the customer service rep, they finally send the check. too a total of 13 weeks and lot of bullshitting to get that check. totally not worth getting the stupid deal.

i never understood why computers get cheaper and cheaper every year, but these calculators seem to maintain the same price after years and years.

#1, doesn't the 92 show the work for everything and the 89 doesn't? I may be wrong.

Economies of scale -- both on the hardware and software.

Of course, considering the HP 50G has a 200-something MHz ARM (underclocked to 75MHz), that's not a bad price compared to other handhelds with similar.
And that's before you consider the HP48 library and HP49 capability that has been developed and added.
Well worth the price, and easier to deal with than a HP48 emulator on a PC (and no other computer software calculator is comparable).
