    Tech Level: high
Ownership: 1 month to 1 year
This user purchased this item from Newegg 1/19/2009 3:08:27 PM eSATA Speed only 1.5 Gbps

Pros: Supports every drive I have, including Blu-ray and DVD drives.

Cons: eSATA speed is half the advertised 3 Gbps speed because of the Initio chipset used. Please see my video review for pictures of the item, board and chip.

Other Thoughts: Thermaltake that this device didn't use an Initio chipset and asked me to contact them. I never heard from them after sending pictures of the chip.

    eSATA port,

I just tested the Thermaltake BlackX and indeed is 1.5 Gb/s. Those cheating bastards!!!

And also tested my other one Vantec Nextar, this is fully 3.0 Gb/s.

#4, ignoring the speed issues, which one do you prefer more in terms of build quality and reliability?

I bought a thermaltake and like the quality of the unit. Since I will use the usb more often, speed is not an issue. However, the vantec one is the same price so I might return it if the vantec is a higher quality.
