STOP THE SLAMMING!
Anybody buy one of these? I'd be afraid it would leave some of the circuitry exposed on some drives.
I love that Ben insists we "slam" our drives into the machine. Probably because of the capital "X," it's "eXtra" "eXtreme" so we have to "slam" it in "eXtraordinarily" hard. Good stuff.
I have one and it works great. I have not had any problem with some of the circuitry being exposed. It is really nice to be able and swap out drives quickly. I have not had a heat problem and I have not had any problems using XP Pro. The only drawback on mine is that it will only accept SATA drives.
This works perfectly for those who work on computers and need to switch and format drives. It beats the ghetto cables that lay strewn around the table.
Very useful dock. I now use SATA drives like floppy disks.
Why does everything need to get slammed in?
just 'cuz you don't ever get the chance to slam a human in bed, don't complain #7
#2, that would also be the case if you put it in your computer (if not worse considering this covers the whole connected end). I wouldn't worry so much about it.
this is nice.
imma gonna git one
No reason adding an eSATA connection doubles the price
#2. Recently, I bought the "Azio SATA HDD Docking Station $23 at Shop4Tech.com".
http://bensbargains.net/deal/84444/
I did not slam by HDD into it, but gently docked into it after connecting the SATA wire to my eSATA port @ the back panel of my computer. Lo! Behold Vista Ultimate recognized my new connection and the HDD was ready for use. One can use USB port as well to access the HDD.
Very satisfied with the performance, ease of setup, construction and packaging.
I have no problem with exposed PCB which is anyway away from you. It does not bother, but gives such flexibility of interchanging HDD without opening the computer.
#4. True, it is only for SATA HDD. For IDE HDD, one can get the dongle version of the same available thru ebay.
Man, I slammed all sorts of stuff in there... Needless to say, Vista didn't recognize my PB&J.
lol @ 13.
For the price it seems not bad, if you don't mind having hard drives sit around physically exposed.
Too bad that version does not offer the 4 usb extension... but I took it anyway
#2 is exactly right - most of the drive's PCB is hanging out in the open. Doesn't bother me but I wouldn't recommend one of these to someone who owns an indoor cat. Especially one that likes to rub up against warm objects.
