eWiz.com has the Thermaltake BlacX ST0005U USB & eSATA Docking Station for $35 - $15 rebate [Exp 8/14] = $20 with free shipping. Slam your hard drive into it to make it into a USB external hard drive. Check out this quick look at how it functions. [Compare]

yea, slam your drive in this, so that it goes bad before you spill coffee in it.

I'd buy 1 of these for $20 without the rebate, but I never see them sans rebate. My rebate rule is "Only buy if the I can live with the price if I don't get the rebate" and $35 is too high.

Yeah, I've sworn off rebates. When they work OK, but every now and then you get one that you've got to chase and chase and it's just too damn much hassle.

If there's one thing you should do with your hard drives, it's slamming them into things.

Is it wrong that I want one of these, even though I really don't have any practical use for it?

Note: I wouldn't recommend using this for any "high-performance" type drive as there's absolutely no active cooling going on here. If you pointed a little desk fan at it, or if you were using one of the new "eco" drives that run cooler it'd probably be okay.

Hell... if it even had a cheap aluminum heatsink that pressed up against the drive it might be okay.
