Been there, done that. I don't know what the book can offer. The builds are essentially different for each model of motherboard, graphic card etc. you buy. Perhaps it can teach you where to look and what the steps are. You can then find the specific kexts for your build.
Still, for free it might peak your interest in buying one.
A new issue.....
The Windows versions of the Ultra lite notebook category are more expensive than the Mac Book Air.....
Have you looked at the price of a Sony or the like with the I5 of I7 ultra portable with a solid state hard drive....

I forget. Why would I want to run an Apple's OS?
^ one software: Final Cut Pro.
Nothing else like it in the market.
Adobe CS5.5 runs wildly better and faster under the MAC OS, for one.
